Born in Savona 57 years ago, a graduate of Business and Economics at LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome, Carlo Ferro has had a career of over 30 years in the management of companies highly oriented towards international competition in global markets.

Carlo Ferro assumed the presidency of the ITA – ICE Agency Board of Directors on the 7th of January 2019 after his resignation as Chairman of the Board at STMicoelectronics (Italia) S.r.l.

At STMicroelectronics NV from 1999, he held various top management positions rising to President Finance Legal Infrastructure and Services.  He was also the Group’s Chief Financial Officer for over 15 years where he contributed to the development of one of the Italy’s and Europe’s technology champions worldwide, with growth results (a turnover from 2 to 8.5 billion USD from the Initial Public Offering (IPO), to when Carlo Ferro left as CFO last May) and in the same period, an increase in employment (from 20,000 to approximately 43,000 employees) and value creation (average annual total return for shareholders of 10.6% per year). 

Carlo Ferro was Deputy Chairman at Assolombarda, as well as the designated representative for Industrial Policies and Revenue, and member of the Board of Directors of Digital Innovation Hub Lombardia, posts he resigned from to assure his total independence in the role of President of ITA – ICE Agency.

He is presently an advisor of the European Commission as member of the IPCEIC  (the Strategic Forum for Important Projects of Common European Interest), as well as adjunct professor of the LUISS Business School, and co-scientific director of its Master’s programme in Corporate Finance.

A former manager at IRI of Finmeccanica and Vice-President of Elsag Bailey Process Automation, Carlo Ferro started his career as a junior controller at the steel mill in Taranto and then dedicated his career to the development on international markets of large scale technology firms, listed on capital markets with the participation of the Italian State.

In over 20 years of experience working abroad, he managed international alliances and joint ventures in the USA, Sweden, Holland, China, Singapore and Japan and has served on the governance bodies of 25 companies in different industries, and in 7 countries within Europe, Asia and USA.

 

Fulvia QUAGLIOTTI

Fulvia B. Quagliotti took the master degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino (Torino Technical State University).

She was at FIAT Aviation Division (later AERITALIA and now ALENIA), Space Division, taking part in several programs.

Then she carried out her activity at the Politecnico di Torino, in the Aerospace Engineering Department.

She retired in November 2016 and she is presently Adjunct Professor at Politecnico di Torino.

She was responsible of several research activities in the field of theoretical and experimental Flight Mechanics and experimental Aerodynamics and in the design of Micro and Mini aerial vehicles.

She was responsible of the design of Micro and Mini aerial vehicles.

She joined the AGARD Flight Mechanics Panel in 1991 till 1997, then she passed to NATO/RTO (Research and Technology Organization), where is the Italian Academia representative in the Applied Vehicle Technology Panel (formely in System Concept Integration Panel, Vice-chairman of the Panel and chairman of the Program Committee for seven years). Within the Panel she was member of the Strategic Committee and Panel Mentor for a Task Group on UAVs until the end of 2017.

Reviewer for several projects within the 6h an 7th Framework Programs and for the European JTI Clean Sky Project and is reviewer for Italian Space Agency, for the Italian University and Research Ministry and for European Commission H2020 Program.

Observer for the European Commission during a number of Calls within the European JTI Clean Sky Project.

2015-2017 she was member of the Scientific Committee of JTI Clean Sky Project.

She is Associate Fellow of AIAA.

She is member of the “Executive Advisory Board, Journal of Intelligent & Robotic Systems“, Springer

Franco FOSSATI

Franco Fossati has been appointed “Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Italia S.p.A.” since 1st July 2021.

He started his career in the space sector in 1989  in the company Aeritalia as a  “Nuclear engineer”.

Franco then joint the company Alenia and subsequently TASI, dealing with the design and management of systems for satellites, inhabited platforms and transport systems, interacting mainly with institutional clients (ASI, ESA, NASA and MoD).

After twenty years spent in the Finmeccanica group, he migrated to Airbus. He was nominated as Head of Engineering of the subsidiary of Astrium Space Transportation in Turin.

Later, he moved to Bremen at ArianeGroup and then to Ottobrunn in Airbus Defense and Space as a Procurement Manager.

In 2020 he moved to Rome in Airbus Italia (an Airbus Defence & Space affiliate) to become Chief Operating Officer COO.

Riccardo joined GE in 1996 covering different technical and commercial roles before being assigned to Asia in 2000 as GE Oil & Gas region sales manager based in Kuala Lumpur. At the end of 2003, he moved back to the GE Oil & Gas headquarters in Florence, Italy, leading the Contractual Service Agreements business unit, part of the business’ Global Services division.
In 2006, he relocated to New Delhi, India, in the role of GE Country Leader, with the mandate to establish the Company’s operations in India, while identifying and launching key localization initiatives and partnerships. In 2009, he was nominated to the role of Turbomachinery Applied Technology leader based in Florence, Italy, where he was responsible for the product leadership of the entire Turbomachinery portfolio.
In 2013, Riccardo joined GE Aerospace Systems as AVIO integration leader, based in Turin, Italy. In this role, Riccardo led the team that planned the smooth transition of AVIO into GE. He was promoted to CEO of Avio Aero in mid-2013. In May 2020, he assumed additional responsibilities as CEO of GE Additive, and in December 2022 increased his leadership scope to include the Dowty Propellers and Unison Industries teams.
Riccardo holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a Ph.D. in turbomachinery from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.

Vincenzo Giorgio

Graduated in Electronic Engineering from Federico II in Naples, he began his activity in the space sector of the then Aeritalia as head of communication systems and on-board computers for satellites.

Previously responsible for scientific projects such as Hipparcos and Integral, he also worked for the International Space Station.

He was Vice President for Science and Exploration of Thales Alenia Space Italia dealing with the realization of important European projects such as GOCE, Herschel & Plank and the start of projects such as: BepiColombo which targets the planet Mercury, the Solar Orbiter project and the mission Exomars for the exploration of the red planet.

Since 2004 Member of the ISEC “International Space Exploration Committee”.

Renata Mele is Senior Vice President Sustainability at Leonardo since September 2020. She leads the sustainability strategy and the project portfolio at global level.

She holds a degree in physics from the University of Naples “Federico II” and a PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Milan.

Her career path is focused on sustainability and innovation in global business contexts, across different sectors, from energy to manufacturing.

She is author of about 50 scientific papers on peer reviewed scientific journals, co-editor of two books, issued by publishers of international relevance, and inventor in patents on power and telecommunication systems.

 

Massimo Claudio COMPARINI

Massimo Claudio Comparini, former CEO at eGeos since 2016 and Director Line of Business Geo Information at Telespazio, has a long and proven track record in space industry, from technology to services, and in the earth observation domain. Massimo holds a Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, Remote Sensing and Radar Systems, University of Rome La Sapienza (Italy), and a Degree in Strategy from Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, CA (USA). He started his career in 1983 at Selenia Spazio (later Alenia Spazio), holding various management positions, up to the role of Chief Technology Officer. In 2013 he was appointed CTO of Telespazio, a joint-venture between Leonardo (67%) and Thales (33%). In 2016 he became the CEO of eGeos, an ASI (20%) and Telespazio (80%) company, an established international leader in the Earth Observation and Geo-Spatial Information, and, in his role, Chairman of GAF and EarthLab Luxembourg.

Since September 2018, Philippe Pham leads the Earth Observation and Science – EOS (until 30 June 2021 Earth Observation, Navigation and Science – ENS) Programme Line within Space Systems.

Present in four European countries covering 1.5 billion Euros of revenues and with more than 1150 employees, this unit has a wide spectrum of skills to address all the institutional and commercial challenges of Earth Observation satellite systems as well as Space Science and satellite exploration of the Solar System.


Before joining EOS, Philippe was Head of Data Analytics and Applications within the Digital Transformation Office for Airbus Defence and Space leading challenging analytics projects throughout Airbus Defence and Space Business Lines and Functions for a better operational efficiency and new business models and customer services revenues.

Philippe has a long experience in Airbus and held different leadership and management positions in defence and space systems and services, system engineering and large programmes, product lines, and proposals management, in both telecommunications and earth observation systems and services.

 

Angela Natale

Angela is the Managing Director for Boeing Southern Europe, with responsibilities for Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece. In this role, she builds on Boeing customer and stakeholder relationships and forges new connections to advance Boeing’s business goals in Southern Europe through proactive engagement.

Until December 2020 Angela was the Director – BCA Structures Engineering, Product Development and Technology, overseeing structural/airframe developments in support of BCA Product Development initiatives, with emphasis on creating an effective and competitive production system.

Angela was also the Technical Fellowship Executive Champion for BCA Structures Engineering, overseeing and guiding utilization and development of the approximately three thousand BCA Structures engineers located at sites around the world.

Prior to her Product Development role, she was Director for the New Midmarket Aircraft, leading a large multi-disciplinary engineering team and guiding design and production system development for the airframe fuselage and major airplane integration areas.

Prior positions with Boeing include: Chief Engineer – BCA Structures Engineering Product Development and Technology; Senior Manager – BCA Seats and Interiors Stress, where she strengthened relationships between Boeing and FAA and opened a new stronger communication channel with EASA; Manager – 737-10 MAX Landing Gear – Test and Stress; Manager – 777 Aft Fuselage Engineering; and Manager – BCA Product Development Advanced Structures Technology.

Before joining Boeing in 2012, Angela held leadership and engineering roles at Alenia Aeronautica. She was Alenia’s onsite 787 Engineering Program Manager over the course of the 787 development, collocated with the Boeing Everett 787 Program since 2004, with assignments in Everett, Washington and Charleston, South Carolina. Her responsibilities spanned Engineering, Manufacturing, Contracts, Supply Chain, Quality, and Material Management organizations. She held several other engineering leadership roles with Alenia in support of the 787 Program and Boeing Product Development. She started her career as a stress analysis engineer, contributing to structural development and substantiation for numerous metal and composite programs.

Angela served one year as Professor’s Assistant at the University of Naples (Italy) in Structures and Aero elasticity, working with the Italian Center for Aerospace Research (CIRA).

Angela holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Aeronautical Engineering, both from the University of Naples, Italy. She also earned certificates in “Modern Aircraft Structures” (University of Washington, 2017), “Additive Manufacturing” (MIT, 2018), and “Sustainable Business Strategy” (Harvard University, 2019). She recently also achieved certificates in “Leading Changes in Organizations” and “Model-Based Systems Engineering” Certificate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and two certificates in Negotiation from Yale and Michigan University, all in 2020. Most recently, she earned certificates in Archaeology “Wonders of Antique Egypt” (Pennsylvania University, 2020), in Psychology “Mindfulness” (Rice University, 2020) and 2 certificates in Economics – “Game Theory” (University of Stanford and University of Tokyo, 2020).

In June 2021 Angela Natale was appointed as a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy Board of Directors.

An active and engaged Society of Women Engineers member, she is a strong advocate for Diversity & Inclusion.

Angela is an avid reader, and enjoys fencing, painting, playing the piano, and walking her dogs.

Angela is fluent in Italian, English and French; she is a beginner in Spanish.

Formerly a pilot and a teacher, Marc started in space field as test engineer of cryogenic rocket engines, he has worked as system engineer, project manager, launch operation manager, head of production, business manager and program manager. Today Marc leads the space programs directorate of Dassault Aviation in Paris.

Giacinto Carullo is the Chief Procurement & Supply Chain Officer of Leonardo since September 2020.

He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering and owns a Master in Procurement and Supply Chain Management from MIP Business School in Milan.

Giacinto started his career path in the Automotive industry, covering different positions in Manufacturing and in Procurement. He worked in Denso, Magneti Marelli and FCA. He was in US to support FCA procurement post merging roadmap.  Then he moved in Germany as VP Purchasing for Magneti Marelli Automotive Lighting.

Giacinto joined Leonardo-Finmeccanica in 2013 as VP Strategic Sourcing for the Helicopter Division. In 2016 he served as Chief Procurement Officer for Leonardo Defence Systems, and in 2017 became SVP Procurement and Supply Chain for Leonardo Aircraft Division.

Giacinto currently is Member Board of Director of ATR aircraft in Toulouse, France.

He is graduated in Electrical Engineering from Naples University “Federico II”

He started his professional career as Professor at Naval School in Procida Italy teaching Electrical Network Theory, Radio-navigation and on Board System architectures.

He joined Aeritalia Spa (today Leonardo Aircraft Division) in1984 at the beginning of ATR Regional Aircraft development. Since, he had the opportunity to cover different positions within GIE ATR (Airbus and Leonardo Company) in the technical (CTO) and Airworthiness (HDO) domains and finally in the Board of Directors.

He has been part of several Regional Aircraft International Programs in Italy, France, US and Germany.

He earned a degree in Electronic Engineering, a PhD in Microwave Engineering, and owns a Master in Business Administration from Luiss Business School in Rome.
He published over 30 publications in international journals and conference proceedings.
Alessandro started his career path in the electronic industry, covering different positions in R&D, Planning, and Sales. He worked for Fbk, Eles Semiconductor Equipment, and IMEC in Belgium.
Alessandro joined Leonardo-Finmeccanica in 2009 serving in different roles ranging from strategic sourcing to direct and indirect categories procurement.

Pierclemente Bottinelli is currently head of the Logistics Business Unit: LOB Helicopters, Aircraft, Customer Service and Military Bases.

Pierclemente has gained significant experience working for twenty years in Industrial Logistics and in production plants; covering roles of increasing responsibility for different types of projects and organizational units.

His areas of expertise include the re-engineering of business processes, the supply and optimization of logistic services, the reduction of costs.

He is currently in charge of a Business Unit of more than 150 direct employees and over 250 indirect, who deal with the management and optimization of the logistics services of the Leonardo factories and military bases.

He was VP ATR Chief Engineer and Head of Engineering Integration in charge of technical definition and development of product, continuous improvement and continuous airworthiness since 2016.He previously worked for AIRBUS Commercial aircraft division during more than 16 years.

He was A320 Incremental Development Chief Project Engineer in charge of Covering the Overall Physical Design, Overall A/C Design and Overall System Design defining and developing next steps for A320 program in the chief Engineering team.

He moreover participated to define the architecture and technical aspects of R&T Programs during 4 years as head of Overall a/c Design encompassing flight physics, engine, Flight Test Bed and Methods and Tools perimeter after having set up flight test demonstrator organization for R&T.

He has been also Head of A30X Flight Physics and Flight Dynamics Integrated team in charge of defining what could be a new Single Aisle a/c. The conclusion of those studies led to the launch of A320 NEO.

Prior to those roles, he has been deputy of A350 Flight Dynamics integrated team. He has been also in charge of France Aerodynamic Methods team same time supporting any development involving fluid mechanics (e.g. Aerodynamics, Aerothermic, Fuel, Bleed Air and Icing)

Furthermore, he is the owner of several patents in Aerospace field and was involved in several tiger teams supporting Airbus a/c programs.

He obtained his Ph.D Degree on Turbulence Modeling from SUPAERO/ONERA in 1995 after graduating as an Aeronautics Engineer at ENSMA (École Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et d’Aérotechnique) in 1992.

Prior to Clean Sky, Axel held various positions in Airbus, including Senior Vice President Cyber Security Program (2014 – 2019); Senior Vice President Research & Technology (2007 – 2014); Senior Vice President Strategic Development (2004 – 2007); and Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (2000 – 2004). Axel holds a Masters in Aerospace Engineering from the Technical University of Aachen, Germany.

Since October 2019, Alessandro Vetrano is the Senior Vice President of Leonardo Aerostructure Division.

He earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering from University “Federico II” of Naples. Alessandro started his career in Alenia Aeronautica S.pA. where, in continuity with his study, was appointed as Flutter and Vibration Specialist at Flight Testing Department.

After an experience in an Aerospace SMEs as Manufacturing Engineer, Program Manager and Plant Manager, Alessandro joined again Alenia Aeronauica S.p.A and started his career within the Procurement. In 2004 had the opportunity to spend 2 years in Boeing Everett (USA) as Procurement representative during the “Development Phase” of the new Boeing Airplane 787.

Ettore Mostarda, currently, is the coordinator of LPS activities of Aerostructures Division in Leonardo company starting from March 2021.

He earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering at “La Sapienza” University in Rome.

Ettore started his career path in helicopters industry AgustaWestland, became Leonardo Helicopter Division, covering different roles in the Manufacturing Engineering function in Anagni plant, starting from liaison engineer to industrialization responsible trough production engineer and tools designer. He was, inside the IPT group of US101 program, the control account manager & focal point for Anagni plant activities.

Ettore moved to Aerostructures Division in 2010 as shop floor manager in Grottaglie plant on Boeing 787 program. In this period, he covered also the role of focal point of the cross-functional team responsible of design, industrialize and manufacture the major lamination tools for Boeing 787 fuselage sections. Starting from 2014 he worked, as shop floor manager, in different areas of assembly line.

In 2016 he became responsible of Grottaglie plant continuous improvement and Production Engineering teams.

in 2019 he moved, as plant continuous improvement responsible, to Pomigliano plant to participate to LPS start-up in Leonardo up to beginning of 2021.

Francesco Saverio Di Martino has been the coordinator of LPS activities of Nola Plant (Aerostructures Division in Leonardo Company) since September 2019.

He earned a degree in Political Science at the “Federico II” University of Naples.

Francesco Saverio began his professional career in the Alenia Aeronautica company that has become the Leonardo company – Aerostructures Division. He started his career in Casoria plant, playing different roles: from the Manufacturing Engineering function, to Special Processes.

In 2013 he moved to Nola Plant and in 2016 he became Head of Sheet Metal Manufacturing Department.

In 2019 he became Head of Nola Plant Continuous Improvement and Coordinator of LPS activities .

Francesco Saverio is currently coordinator of the LPS 4.0 activities of the Nola Plant.

Alessandro ERRICO

Alessandro Errico graduated in Aerospace Engineering in Pisa and earned an Executive MBA at SDA Bocconi Business School.

He started his career in Agustawestland, as part of the helicopter preliminary design engineering team, to be successively appointed as Value Stream Leader to increase modularity and commonality across civil helicopter products.

In 2016 he joined Leonardo Corporate Chief Technical Office to define technological and program strategy of aerospace product portfolio.

Since 2018 Alessandro has been leading the Business Scenario function in the Unmanned Systems Unit, set to enhance Leonardo’s market competitiveness on unmanned system segment, by defining a unified group strategy.

In the first part of his professional career he contributed to develop the current generation of aircraft engines like the GE90-115B and the GEnx-1B up to their certification, covering different positions inside these programs. Alberto has worked in multiple fields of application, from engine controls and monitoring systems to mechanical transmission, and in all product phases, from low TRL research to supporting end of life fleets and including ITO/OTR. He is currently leading the Life-Cycle Engineering for the Catalyst engine, being responsible for the development and certification of all engine components and modules. Sérgio da Cunha Oliveira holds a master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Beira Interior. Holds a Postgraduate degree in Project Management – IPMA Certificate, by ISG – Escola Superior de Gestão.

With extensive experience in management in various cultural environments – Brazil, Spain, UK, Saudi Arabia – and various industrial sectors- Aeronautics, Automotive, Energy and Oil & Gas, Industrial Construction, Mould and Tooling Manufacturing, among others. He was Executive General Director of PEMAS – NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF AERONAUTICAL INDUSTRY / AED PORTUGAL – CLUSTER INDUSTRIAL AERONAUTICS SPACE AND DEFENCE since 2008, International Consultant and Technical Trainer in the aerospace sector until 2016.

He was a founding member of the EACP – European Aerospace Cluster Partnership – International Network of Aerospace Clusters that brings together more than 40 clusters from 20 countries, also accumulates with the functions of Leader of the EACP Working Group for International Strategy for Aerospace. As Director General of the PEMAS Association he has been establishing the necessary contacts between Industry, Academia, and the Public Sector to create a comprehensive and sustainable vision for the development of a strong industrial capacity with global impact.

While in EACP, as Working Group Strategy lead, promoted several international joint projects, exhibition participations, B2B events with several countries (Germany, France, Spain, UK, Italy (with CIE Piemonte) Turkey and Poland, to name a few.)

Furthermore, he acted as consultant for the cluster policy definition and implementation for Hamburg Hanseatic State government in 2012/13 as well as consultant for policy advisory for the Andalusian Aerospace Cluster in 2014.

He was also a member of the Executive Committee of X AeroSystems, S.A., Portugal, an entity specialized in the development, manufacture, and operation of unmanned aerial systems for civil missions in maritime and land operations.

Later, he was invited by the Secretary of State of Internationalisation under the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the mission of internationalising the industry, namely, the Aerospace, Automotive and High-Tech sectors. On that aspect, he maintained regular contact with between the European Institutions and other European partners and the West African countries, GCC countries and China, South Korean and Iran (to name a few). The governmental collaboration ended in late 2017.

After, he was hired as CEO to an 28M€ industrial American investment deployment in Portugal that comprehended the concept definition, funding procurement and retention, architectural definition and construction of an state of the art industrial unit to produce high-end Printed Circuit Boards for mission critical application (aerospace, Space, MedTech and Defence).

Currently, his main activity is consultancy for renewable energy investments, with a mix of technical aspects and financial aspects that make the investments possible. Holding projects in Portugal, Ireland, Gibraltar, Cape Verde, and Brazil.

 

While in the industry, he worked as point of contact for the Tornado and JSF programmes in Spain, as consortium leader for Lockheed Martin offset programme in Portugal (one of the few successful offset programmes with a large consortium as beneficiary) under the P-3 modernisation programme, acted as Business Developer for more than 40 companies with considerable results, managing to develop several leads and include the companies onto several development programmes with reference OEMs.

In 2000 she had the opportunity to join the Six Sigma Project as reference certified Black Belt for the Industrial Operations and in 2002 she was appointed Industrial Project Manager for Helicopters Programs in partnership with General Electric (T700&CT7-8 program). In 2004 she joined the Business Unit as Program Manager for GE Helicopters Programs. In the Business Unit she consolidated and expanded her role becoming Program Director for specific Aviation Civil, Marine & Industrial Programs in partnership with GE. In December 2012 she was appointed as Program Director for Pratt & Whitney and Honeywell Programs and in April 2014 as Program Leader for the same programs in Program Management & Product Support (OTR) organization. In January 2015 she was also appointed as Avio Aero Simplification Leader.

In October 2016 she moved in the Global Supply Chain as Sourcing Leader for Avio Aero, position that she is currently covering.

Airworthiness Regulation Director

Carmela Tripaldi, born in Rome on March 19, 1964. She graduated in Aeronautical Engineering in 1990 at the “Sapienza” University of Rome and has held various positions of responsibility both nationally and internationally in the Civil Aviation organizations: ICAO, JAA and EASA . He currently holds the role of Airworthiness Regulation Director in the National Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) and coordinator of the national Tak Force for Advanced Air Mobility. She is an expert in the field of safety management and regulation recently more generally she deals with research programs and the introduction of new technologies and innovations in the civil aviation sector.

Marek Atanascev

Marek ATANASCEV

Czech Trade

After his experience in private sector he has completed the Diplomacy Course of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
He has worked as export consultant of the governmental CzechTrade Promotion Agency and in 2018 became the director of its foreign office in Italy, responsible for the support of the Czech-Italian business activities and commercial cooperation. Since 2019 he has been responsible also for the Italian activities of the Business and Investment Development Agency of the Czech republic – CzechInvest.
Marek Atanasčev graduated in the economy and languages from the Masaryk University in Brno, an EMBA candidate by LUISS Business School.

Fabrizio FAVIA

Management Engineer

Fabrizio is a student of the Polytechnic of Turin, currently enrolled in the second year of
the Master’s Degree in Management Engineering and close to graduation.
During his studies, he always wanted to try his hand at challenges and projects, taking
care of both the strategic and planning topics and the economic analysis.
Besides being interested in economics, he has always been passionate about astronomy
and astrophysics: this led him to constantly look for experiences that could link this two
passions.
In October 2019 he obtained the role of Team Leaderin the Market Analysis section of
PoliTOrbital, a student team that analyzes suborbital tourism.
In 2021 he obtained the assignment for a thesis work, through DAP (Piedmont Aerospace
District) and Polytechnic of Turin, with the aim of analyzing in detail the Piedmontese
aerospace supply chain and its firms. 

Luca MASTROGIACOMO

Associate Professor of Processing Technologies and Systems

Luca Mastrogiacomo is Associate Professor of processing technologies and systems (ING-IND/16) at Politecnico di Torino. Co-author of 3 books, 2 patents and more than 100 printed publications in international and national journals and/or conferences, he carries out research in the fields of manufacturing technology, quality engineering and industrial metrology. He is currently Deputy Coordinator of the College of Management Engineering at Politecnico di Torino and alternate member of the AITEM board.

Grant FRETWELL

Grant Fretwell has been with Praxair Surface Technologies since 2003. He joined PST as an applications engineer and held various technical and commercial positions in the United Kingdom until 2018 when he joined the global technical development team. He is a leader in the chrome replacement efforts, focusing on the aviation market. He has a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Materials Science and a PhD in Clinical Engineering (Biomaterials), both from the University of Liverpool.

Luigi Scatteia

Luigi is a Partner in PwC Advisory France. Within PwC he leads the Space Practice worldwide, and core space strategy consulting team based in Paris and Toulouse, focused on serving institutional and commercial stakeholders in the space sector, as well as non-space companies with specific commercial interest in space products and applications. He has 22 years of experience in the space sector and he has extensively supported the Space Industry, the investment community, Space Agencies, intergovernmental organizations, and governments in Europe and Worldwide. He is a regular keynote and panel speaker at space-related events worldwide.  

Ralf Zimmermann

HO Moon Programs and Orion-ESM

Ralf Zimmermann is the assigned head of moon programs and project manager of the Orion European Service (ESM) module at Airbus. The ESM represents half of the spacecraft used by NASA and international partners to return humans to the moon within the Artemis program. Prior to this, Ralf Zimmermann was chief programs officer and managing director of TESAT Spacecom, delivering electronic equipment for satellites (telecom, earth observation and science and constellations). Before joining TESAT he headed a multinational department for Active Radar and Microwave instruments in Airbus Space Systems in the earth observation perimeter. Earlier career stations encompass: Head of German national and Export Satellites, Program Manager for the Automated Transfer Vehicle serving the International Space Station (ISS) and different positions within the Columbus program development for the European Module of the ISS.

Walter Cugno

Vice President Exploration and Science Domain

After finishing his graduate studies in the field of aerospace engineering and technology, Walter Cugno joined the company in 1975 as a member of the Spacelab programme, the first European manned space system. He then held positions as Assembly, Test and Integration manager of the Hipparcos satellite, and in project management roles on BeppoSax and on the International Space Station (ISS) programme, developing, amongst other things, the Node2 Harmony, Node 3 Tranquility and Cupola elements, as well as the PMM (Permanent Multipurpose Module) Programme and the Cygnus Pressurized Cargo Module. After time spent as the Director of the ExoMars Programme, he was then appointed  as VP, Exploration and Science and head of Thales Alenia Space’s activities in Turin. Walter Cugno is a world-renowned expert in the field of human and robotic space exploration, as well as in the prospective studies of the exploitation of space resources in the “new space” economy.

Raphael Roettgen

Raphael Roettgen is the founder of E2MC Ventures, a space-focused early-stage venture capital firm. He is also the co-founder of Prometheus Life Technologies, a space biotech startup that was the first startup to win the Orbital Reef innovation challenge.

He lectures on space entrepreneurship and finance at several universities including the International Space University (ISU) and the Swiss Institute of Technology at Lausanne (EPFL), hosts the popular Space Business Podcast, and is the author of “To Infinity”, an introductory book on the space economy.

Previously, Mr. Roettgen held senior roles at global investment banks and hedge funds and was also a fintech entrepreneur in Brazil.

He holds degrees in finance from Wharton, machine learning from PUC-Rio and space studies from the International Space University, where he also serves as a governing member.

Sam Martin

Since 2010, Sam has been a partner at Fleur De Lis Partners in Tampa, Florida, accumulating more than a decade of private transaction experience. In 2019, he led application development at an AI startup. After departing in 2020, he deepened his AI research, earned a certificate in CS from NYU, and in 2022, co-authored an ML algorithm for equities analysis. That same year, he invested in Spaced Ventures. He joined their team in March 2023 as Senior Partner and has since helped close 4 transactions representing 14.5mn $USD in AUM. Sam holds a bachelor’s in philosophy and a minor in music from George Washington University.

Adnan Al-Rais

Director of Remote Sensing Department

In his capacity as Assistant Director General – Space Operations and Exploration Sector in
the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), Adnan and his team are responsible
for all downstream activities of MBRSC space missions. This includes the Ground
Networks Operations and Maintenance, Missions Operations, Data Processing,
Applications and Value-added Products Development, Interfacing with the end users;
locally and internationally, as well as commercializing MBRSC products and services.
In addition, Adnan is managing the UAE Astronaut Program at MBRSC, managing missions,
and preparing astronauts corps to support current and future Human Spaceflight
missions. Moreover, he is overseeing the Space Science and Space Robotics Lab at MBRSC.
Adnan has published and presented a number of papers in the areas of remote sensing
and satellite image applications. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering
from Khalifa University, Sharjah, UAE

Timothy Cichan

 Chief Architect, Commercial Civil Space

Timothy Cichan (Chee-haan) is the Space Exploration Architect at Lockheed Martin, where he leads a multi-disciplinary team of engineers who figure out how to help astronauts and robots visit the Moon, asteroids, and Mars. He previously was the Orion System Architect. Timothy joined Lockheed Martin in 2002, and has worked for both human spaceflight and commercial communication satellite teams, in optimal trajectory design, mission analysis, subsystem development, and systems engineering. He has a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State.

Dana Baki

Chief Commercial Officer

Dana Baki is the Chief Commercial Officer of The Exploration Company, one of the fastest growing space companies globally, building reusable space capsules and lunar landers. This Nyx capsule will be the first to use green propellant globally, while flying at a fraction of the cost of global competition.

Prior to joining The Exploration Company, Dana was the co-founder & COO of MUNCH:ON, a food technology platform based out of the Middle East, that was acquired by Careem (Uber’s subsidiary in the region). Before starting MUNCH:ON, Dana was a Partner of Business Development at AlJal Capital—a financing and venture capital firm in the United Arab Emirates. Previous to that, Ms. Baki worked for Procter & Gamble in the United States for 7+ years, benefiting from a wide range of assignments within the company and gaining expertise in Corporate Strategy, Marketing and Consumer Insights.

She holds an MBA from Georgetown University and B.A. in Economics and English Literature from The University of Michigan.

Theodora Ogden

Analyst – Defence & Security

Theodora Ogden is an Analyst in the Defence and Security team at RAND Europe, where she focuses on emerging technologies, strategy and space as an operational domain. Her work has helped inform UK MOD and the UK Space Agency, including towards development of the British National Space Strategy and security strategy. She currently manages a large-scale evaluation of the UKSA’s Earth Observation programme. In 2022 Theodora spent six months on secondment at Arizona State University as the inaugural Interplanetary Initiative Fellow, leading research on equitable access to space and emerging spacefaring countries. She regularly publishes and speaks on the future of space and key geopolitical, legal and economic challenges. Theodora also provides advice and research input for various international working groups and policy initiatives. With an academic background in security and international law, Theodora previously worked at NATO HQ SACT and the Fundamental Rights Agency of the EU, as well as at several think tanks and non-profit organisations.

Joshua Western

Manny Shah

Managing Director

Manny is the Managing Director for UK & Europe at Orbit Fab, supporting the development of an in-space propellant and materials supply chain. Manny is focused on technology development, commercialisation, and international growth for this leading space start-up. Manny previously helped develop BryceTech’s international consulting presence into a revenue generating and profitable business, managed the analysis of a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of assets at Inmarsat, and executed on cross-functional initiatives at top-tier investment banks. Manny holds a master’s degree in space studies from the International Space University and a bachelor’s in computer science from the University of Kent.

Manny sits on multiple advisory boards and committees, including UKSA’s Space Technology Advisory Committee, the UK’s Spaceflight Safety and Regulatory Council, and the International Astronautical Federation’s Industry Relations Committee. He is a recipient of the 2023 IAF Young Space Leader, the 2019 and 2020 SSPI 20 under 35 award, SGAC’s Space Generation Leadership award, and the William S. Ball Award for Entrepreneurship.

Didier Schmitt

Head of the Strategy
& Coordination Group, Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration

Didier Schmitt is head of the strategy and coordination group for human and robotic exploration at the European Space Agency. From 2009 to 2018 he was stationed in Brussels, successively in the European Commission Space Policy Unit, as adviser to the President of the EC on technology foresight, and at the EU diplomatic service dealing with space and security. Previously he was head of life sciences for human spaceflight at ESA-ESTEC. As an academic he was Associate Professor at the Toulouse medical school and at the International Space University in Strasbourg. His educational background is PhD in biosciences as well as a certified medical doctor.
