Advanced Technologies Engineering Leader

Luca Bedon is an Executive Engineering Manager with more than 20 years’ experience in the aerospace business. He’s the leader of the Advanced Technology organization in AvioAero (a GE Aviation business).

He started his professional career designing and certifying the current generation of products, like the GE90-115B and GEnx. Before focusing on innovation, he also led the engineering military engine department of AeroAero.

He and his team are working to create and execute the technology roadmap to meet the regulatory targets and the customer requirements which will drive development of future aircraft engines.

ARMANDO CIAMPOLINI

Operations & Programs Director

Graduated at POLITECNICO di Torino in Aeronautical Engineering.

Recruited in 1980 by former Aeritalia Space Group, today Thales Alenia Space – Torino, he worked in the Structural design & Analysis Group until 1989; in 1982, he served the Italian Air Force as Officer Responsible of the Workshop in the Reparto Sperimentale di Volo – Pratica di Mare.

He was technical responsible of Structure and Mechanisms of the Italian Tethered Satellite and Study Manager for the Pre-Phase A of ESA Scientific Satellite ARISTOTELES.

From 1989 to 2001, he was Program Manager for Alenia of several programs, e.g.:

HELIOS Case d’Adaptation & HELIOS/SPOT4 Plateforme, in Phase B & C/D. (HELIOS being a military satellite for Earth Observation, resulting from France, Italy, Spain cooperation).

ESA SOHO (Service Module Structure and Harness, SOHO being a Solar Observation Satellite).

ESA ARD (ARD (Atmospheric Re-entry Demonstrator), Thermal Control and measurement chain harness of re-entry demonstration capsule, launched with the second Ariane 5 flight).

ATV (Automated Transfer Vehicle, European Cargo for the International Space Station). Responsible of the Integrated Cargo Carrier (i.e. the forward half of ATV, inclusive of the pressurized module used by the astronauts for loading and unloading activities as well as  the docking system and the refuel, water and air delivery systems.

Since 2001, he is the Technical Responsible of ALTEC, nominated Operations Director in 2010.

From June 2016, he is Director of Programmes, Exploration, Science & Operations, now named Programs and Operations Director, with the responsibility of Program Management, Purchasing, Engineering, Infrastructures, Project and industrial control, Product Assurance and Safety.

Cesare LOBASCIO

Space Infrastructure Systems Innovation Lead,
Expert Life Support & Habitability

Cesare Lobascio graduated in Nuclear Engineering at Politecnico di Torino (Italy) in 1987, and in Environmental Engineering (MS) at the University of California in Berkeley (USA) in 1993, being awarded a Fulbright Fellowship.

He has worked for 30 years at Thales Alenia Space in the fields of Space Environment and Environmental Control and Life Support, with roles of analyst, researcher, system engineer, study manager and leader for the disciplines, in the frame of several International Space Station, Scientific Satellites and Space Exploration programs.

For more than 14 years, he has been Head of the Space Flight, Environment & Habitats Unit. In this role he was responsible for teams active in the domain of Space Environment & Debris, Life Support & Habitat, Aeromechanics & Propulsion.  Since 2014 he serves as Senior Expert in “Life Support & Habitability” in Thales Alenia Space.

He is currently Innovation Lead for Exploration & Science, in the New Initiatives and Innovation Directorate, active in the innovation Cluster and Open Innovation initiatives.

He teaches two courses at the Master SEEDS (Space Exploration & Development Systems) in Torino: Space and Planetary Environment and Environmental Control and Life Support.   

He has authored more than 70 papers for journals and conferences, and several book chapters.

Member of the International Conference on Environmental Systems (ICES) International Committee and Space Environment Systems Program Committee, he organizes and chairs several workshops and conference sessions in his field.
